Haussmann, Paris
Haussmanian architecture was pioneered during the reign of Napoleonic III who wished to clean up a disease ridden and overcrowded Paris. He employed the capacities of Georges-Eugène Haussmann who was not an architect by practise; rather he specialised in public administration, where he conducted an urban renewal plan in order to improve sanitation and standards and which now constitutes an impressive 60% of Parisian build. Haussmann is noticeably characterised by a resplendently decadent, large and elegant style and accessorised by iron balconies. ornate conices, tall windows and spacious and airy interiors.
